The rock rises straight out of the water a short way offshore and changes character with the light. The classic vantage point is the road along the cliffs above Cala d'Hort, where a viewpoint frames the islet with the sun going down behind it.

There are three versions. The viewpoint, free and busy in the last hour of light. Es Boldadó, the restaurant on the cliff above the cove, where you eat with the rock in front of you and where a table needs booking in summer. Or the pebble beach at Cala d'Hort itself. All three are quieter than the crowd over at Sant Antoni.

The hills behind Cala d'Hort, Cala Carbó and Cala Vadella hold some of the most private property on Ibiza: large plots, no immediate neighbours, pools facing west, gates rather than reception desks. It is why we take so many bookings in an area with no hotels.

The choice is deliberately small. Es Boldadó above the cove is the reservation to make first, the beach restaurants at Cala d'Hort and Cala Carbó do straightforward fish, and Es Torrent at Porroig is the long lunch residents rate above anything on the south strip. Inland, Sant Josep village is about fifteen minutes away with a square, bars and a couple of good restaurants. Beyond that, dinner happens at the villa, and an in-villa chef is the standard solution for a multi-day stay.

A companion travelling from the town side needs thirty to forty minutes each way, longer on an August evening, and the last few kilometres are unlit lanes where an address does not always help. Bookings here want more notice than anywhere else on the island: a couple of days in the shoulder months, several in high summer.

Given the drive, a short booking is not sensible: what works is a long evening built around the sunset and dinner, or a multi-day stay at the villa. There is none out here, and that has to be a choice rather than a surprise.
