Work backwards from six in the morning. Dinner at ten, somewhere to sit and drink until half past midnight, in the club by one, and you are looking at roughly eight hours before the lights come up. Most of our nightlife bookings are eight to ten hours for exactly this reason, and clients who book shorter usually extend once they realise how the hours fall.

Tell us at the start whether you intend to see the sunrise or leave at three. Both are perfectly normal. What does not work is deciding at four that you would like another four hours, because by then she has arranged how she is getting home.

Anyone can be good company for two hours. Being good company at four in the morning, after a long dinner and a loud room, is a different skill and not everyone has it. The women who work these nights regularly pace themselves — they eat properly, they do not drink at the speed of the table, and they are still talking at the end.

It also matters that she actually likes this. There is no disguising boredom in a club at three. If your evening is a table with your friends rather than a night out for two, say so, because the right choice for one is not automatically right for the other.

For tables with a spend minimum and a host, the VIP tier is the more accurate fit. For a straightforward night out, the main roster is full of women who do this every week of the season.

If you are on the Playa d'en Bossa strip, the whole night is walkable: Ushuaïa runs open-air and finishes early, and most of that crowd simply crosses the road to Hï Ibiza and stays until closing. No car, no planning.

From Ibiza Town you are ten minutes from Pacha by the marina and can start the evening on foot in the port. Also easy. It is the inland clubs that need thought — Amnesia at Sant Rafel and DC-10 out by the salt flats both mean a drive at each end of the night, and the drive at the far end is the hard one.

There are nowhere near enough taxis on Ibiza in July and August, and at six in the morning you are competing with two thousand people who all left the same building. This is where good nights go wrong.

We agree the return leg before you go out. Usually that means a private driver booked for a rough window, sometimes the Discobus if you are on a resort route, occasionally the island taxi app ordered well before you walk out rather than after. It is unglamorous and it is the difference between ending the night in bed and ending it on a kerb.
