Ask when to come and most people will tell you August, on the assumption that peak season means peak island. It does not. August is the month with the most people in it, which is a different claim entirely, and once you separate the two the whole calendar looks different.
The Island Runs on a Six-Month Clock
Ibiza wakes up around the opening parties in late April and May, runs at full volume through July and August, and closes down through the closing parties in late September and the first days of October. Outside that window the clubs are shut, most of the beach clubs are boarded up, and the island belongs to the twenty-odd thousand people who live here year round. That is a perfectly good trip, but it is a different one.

August Is Not Better Weather. It Is More Friction.
The heat in the second week of September is much the same as the heat in the second week of August. What changes is everything around it. There are not enough taxis for the number of people who need one, the road between Ibiza Town and the west coast crawls, the restaurants you wanted cannot seat you inside a fortnight, and the front-row sunbed at a name beach club costs a multiple of what the identical bed costs a month later.

The Two Best Fortnights Sit at Either End
The strongest weeks of the season are the opening stretch in May and the closing stretch from late September into October. The parties that bookend the season are the ones the island itself turns out for, the roads are quiet, and a restaurant will still take a booking made that morning.
If you can only travel once and you want the version of Ibiza that people talk about afterwards, pick one of those two windows rather than the middle. The Sea Runs Behind the Calendar
Worth knowing if swimming is a priority: the water in June is noticeably cooler than the water in September, even though the air is similar. The Mediterranean takes the whole summer to warm up and holds that heat well into autumn. September is the best swimming month of the year here, which is why locals take their own holidays in it.
What Is Open and What Is Not
In early May and in October you have to check individual venues rather than assume. The beach clubs come on stream through May and start winding down through late September; the north empties first and the Sant Antoni strip quietens quickly once the club season ends. Inland village restaurants and the towns around Santa Eulària stay open longest, because they serve residents rather than visitors.

What This Means for Booking Company
The pattern is straightforward. In July and August, arrange a specific companion several days out, and expect a same-evening request after eight o'clock to be a lottery. From May to June and through late September, an afternoon message for that night is usually fine, and the overnight format is easier to arrange because nobody is stacked back to back.
Shoulder season is simply a better product at a lower price with less waiting. The only real argument for August is that you want to be in the crowd — which is a legitimate reason, just not a scenic one. The travel guide has the rest of the practical detail.
